“And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to bloom.”

The sky fell on Barbara Brewster in 1984. She was diagnosed with a serious illness, multiple sclerosis. The reaction of many to such news is resignation, to lay down and take it. They believe what must be will be – the attitude of a victim. Instead, MS spurred Barbara to self-examination. She was shocked to discover that many areas of her life, including her body, were dysfunctional. On one hand she took risks, on the other hand she held herself back. She could immigrate to Australia and hitchhike the world, but avoided honesty in her relationships. She played aggressive sports but feared revealing her emotions. She ran a thriving business but felt trapped by an identity that measured success in money.

In Journey to Wholeness, Barbara shares how she turned every aspect of her life into an opportunities to exchange constrictive behaviours and beliefs for expansive ones. It is the deeply honest story of her transformation from a woman contorting herself to live by others rules to one accepting the right and the necessity of living according to her own truth. With that comes the burden and the joy of self-discovery.

Barbara believes that choice exists, even in crisis. Journey to Wholeness inspires people to make the choices necessary to become survivors instead of victims of their adversity, whether it is their health, a relationship, or a career problem. As Journey to Wholeness eloquently illustrates, true healing is not so much about recovering from disease as it is about recovering from misbeliefs, fears and self-inflicted limitations.

“Gradually, a shift took place – a shift from looking outside of myself for wellness to looking within. I started considering the possibility that what was happening in my life was a sign of inner disharmony – and that something more than mere physical changes was necessary. I needed to change at other levels – to release outmoded habits, establish more wholesome behaviour patterns, change my beliefs, turn inward, trust, and surrender to a higher power. I had no idea how to do this or where the process would take me.”

WITH GRACE AND INSIGHT Barbara Brewster shows us how even a life threatening crisis can be an opportunity to restore the memory of wholeness. And, when the memory of wholeness returns, there is healing. I highly recommend this book.

IT’S PROBABLY THE MOST HONEST BOOK EVER WRITTEN.

INCREDIBLE!   September 8, 2003
I bought this book when I was diagnosed with MS – and I must admit, it was the subtitle that really made me buy it because after a few weeks of grief and loss, I was ready to take charge – I had woken up – and I needed to move forward. This book has so many insights – it really helped me get my arms around the situation – There are so many passages in here that I underlined because they just are so on target – one has to do with “accepting and enjoying and finding the value in my own path. What was right for me.
wonderful quotes from other authors throughout the book as well.
Anyway, it was/is a great book for me – helped me to loosen the grip on my self and allow myself to start to bloom, get perspective and live again. Many thanks to this author for sharing her experiences and thoughts.

A POWERFUL AND ABSORBING INITIATION into self-examination and wholeness through the crucible of illness … An exceptionally well-written, informative, and empowering book especially for women.
W. Brugh Joy, M.D., Author of “Joy’s Way”

THIS BOOK IS DYNAMITE. It just exploded for me. It’s the best self-help book I’ve ever read. It deals with many of the things I’m going through right now. I know that reading Journey to Wholeness will change people’s lives. It is THE resource book–I want to buy a case of them to give to everyone I know.
Eileen Whitelaw, Counselor and Administrator

JOURNEY TO WHOLENESS CHANGED MY LIFE...I’ve read it three times now. I keep reading it because Barbara Brewster’s example tells me that I, too, can heal.

WHAT A DELIGHT IT IS TO READ THIS new and important contribution to the field of healing. The path Barbara Brewster followed is practically identical to my own concept of a therapy of the Whole Person developed in the course of over thirty years’ experience at Meadowlark. In dealing with a chronic illness commonly accepted by the medical profession as being incurable, Barbara Brewster has led the reader along her own path to recovery. She has demonstrated the great power of love in the field of healing. In respect to the body, this meant proper nutrition; in the case of the mind, there was needed cleansing of the pollution from retained memories of guilt, unforgiveness and stored up anger. This was followed by the visualization of her own new body-mind image along with the courage to accept herself as she was, on a new unique path toward the liberation of her True Self.
Evarts Loomis, M.D., Founder of Meadowlark

EVER SINCE I READ JOURNEY TO WHOLENESS I’ve been thinking and thinking about what it said. It’s encouraged me to do some things that are important for me–and I’ve decided to go back to school and get my masters degree in marketing and sales–which I love.
A new mother

JOURNEY TO WHOLENESS is an incredible adventure of healing and transformation. Barbara Brewster writes from the heart and speaks with the authority only acquired by one who is living life fully. As a person who understands universal truth, she is now “passing it on” so others might learn from her experience.
Reverend Mary Manin Morrissey, author, speaker, USA

A TOUCHING, DEEPLY INTIMATE ACCOUNT. This book should not be missed by anyone interested in the journey toward health and wholeness.
