The Birth and Message of My Song “I Enjoy Being Flamboyant“
Several years ago I was having “Body Talk” sessions by phone with Sara, who would tune in to my body and say, “This body needs protein,” or “It’s needing hydration.” One day Sara said, “This body needs Flamboyance.” Flamboyance? She continued, “This isn’t your body. It’s your mother’s.” Oh dear. Then the session ended.
Over the next few days, I pondered, “How do I give this body Flamboyance? What does that look/feel like?” And this song came to me. Never did I imagine, however, sharing it publicly, let alone whipping off my dress and prancing around in cabaret style. However, sometime later, in costume for a friend’s birthday cabaret – VIOLA!
For years, now, I’ve woven this song into countless public/private/speaking and workshop engagements. Women, especially, approach me afterward saying things like, “Im the girl in the tight box…You’ve encouraged me to be more myself…Thank you.”
The song reflects everything I’m passionate about—the profundity, healing power, community connection, ease and joy that occurs when we say YES to “funly” allowing ourselves to bring forth our TRUE nature.
I ENJOY BEING FLAMBOYANT
(tune– “I Enjoy Being A Girl”)
Oh, I am a juicy hot babe
Because I am heaven made
I love being bright and buoyant
I enjoy being flamboyant
When I was a little child
My mother always said, “Be mild,
Because someone may disapprove
If you’re too big for their little groove.”
So I constructed a tight box
Complete with a lid and big locks
Thinking no one could disapprove of me
If they could not see the truth of me.
Now I’m mature and wiser
And I am my own advisor
In the West and in the Orient (*I turn around & surprise audience
with unexpected changed outfit)
I go around being flamboyant
I’ve learned the best way to beat DEpression
Is to stop blocking full EXpression
Of all I was meant to be
The fully flamboyant me
Because it’s more fun to razzle-dazzle
Then to shrink in a frightened frazzle,
So when you’re drowning in disappointment
Change your game by being flamboyant
Audience joins, and repeats after me:
Oh, we are juicy hot babes–and guys
Because we are heaven made
We love being bright and buoyant
We enjoy
We have a lot of fun
We light up the world
Being flamboyant.
